English 8

This course is designed to prepare students for high school by becoming more proficient in writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and all styles of writing exercises. Throughout this course, students will do the following:

  • become more proficient in writing, grammar, and vocabulary
  • gain reading, listening, and comprehension skills
  • read a variety of short literary works
  • read grade-level appropriate novels including Diary of Anne Frank and Call of the Wild
  • become grounded in various themes in literature such as “friendship” and “choices”
  • write grade-level appropriate essays, reports, and analysis of literature
  • continue developing the writing process – prewriting, proofreading, rewriting, reports
