Letter to Families

Dear Desert Chapel families,

God tells us in Scripture that the tongue has incredible power. We can use our tongue to bring blessings and life, or curses and death. The saying, "sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me," is simply not true. Our tongues can be the most difficult thing to control, and yet, the wonderful truth is that God will equip us, through the Holy Spirit, to have power and control over our tongue.

In this past week, there have been several incidents involving students whose words have been used inappropriately or insultingly. Sometimes our words cause hurt because we are thoughtless, uninformed, or attempting humor. Often, though, our words are used to hurt or humiliate. God exhorts us to use our words to encourage one another. It is the desire of Desert Chapel Christian School that we guard our words with care, so that our words encourage, inspire, support, and build one another up in the love of Jesus. Ephesians 4:29 says,

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others

up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

This letter serves as a formal reminder of our expectations. As detailed in the Student Handbook, serious name calling or other comments intended to hurt or ridicule is unacceptable behavior and is not permitted. Comments or name calling that refer to race, gender, or ethnicity is strictly prohibited. In addition, slander, gossip, or berating conversation falls short of the expectations of a student who attends Desert Chapel Christian School. We encourage respectful, clean, and positive dialogue.

It is our desire that each student feel safe, valued, and secure at school. It is our mission to be a school that is academically, athletically, and spiritually excellent. We appreciate your partnership as we strive for excellence in all areas of our school life and community.

In His Service,

Pastor Frank Marshall Principal
