After graduating from Vanguard University in 1998, Shannon McNeill began teaching junior high Science and English at a Christian school in the Los Angeles area, where she worked for 15 years. During this time, she earned her Master's degree from Grand Canyon University in Curriculum and Instruction. Thereafter, she and her husband moved to Bakersfield, where she became the Junior High Principal at a Christian K-8th school for seven years. In the 2020 school year, she began teaching here at DCCS, having moved to the area for her husband’s job. The 2021 year begins her 24th year in the field of education.
One verse that she has leaned on over the years is Psalm 118:14: “The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.” Though she has been a Christian for the majority of her life, this verse has uplifted her through the various challenges that life brings.
Her greatest joy, other than her family, is seeing her students have a “light bulb moment” when they truly start to understand a concept for the first time. She is invested in their academic growth, as well as their spiritual growth. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her family, golfing, volleyball, and pickleball.
